Frequently asked questions

Everything we could think of about how ColleQA works today — including what's not built yet.

Getting started

What is ColleQA?

ColleQA is an AI-assisted guide for parents navigating the college search process with their student — a college list built around your student's real profile, deadlines that track themselves, and match scores you can see the reasoning behind.

Is it free?

Yes — ColleQA is free during our early access period, no credit card required. We may introduce paid plans down the road, but we'll let existing users know well in advance before anything changes.

What do I need to get started?

Just a few basics about your student — grade, GPA, interests, and what matters to them in a campus. The AI advisor asks a few questions at a time rather than handing you a giant form, and you can fill in the rest of the profile whenever you have it.

Do I need to already know a lot about the college process?

No — that's the point. The advisor is built to guide parents who are new to this as much as ones who've done it before, and every match score comes labeled with plain-language context, not just a number.

Match scores & the AI advisor

How are match scores calculated?

Each school gets scored across several dimensions — academic fit, financial fit, program outcomes, location, campus environment, and (where applicable) learning-support access — built from real data like admitted-student test ranges, net price, and federal earnings data. Every score is labeled with how confident we are in it, so you know when it's solid and when it's a rougher estimate.

Can I trust the AI advisor's recommendations?

The advisor is a genuinely useful starting point and a good way to talk through options, but it's not a substitute for a school counselor or a financial aid professional — treat its suggestions as a place to start digging, not a final word, especially on anything with real financial or legal stakes.

What does it mean when a school shows "not enough data"?

It means we don't have reliable data behind that particular number for that school or major yet — not that the answer is bad. We'd rather show an honest gap than make up a number that looks precise but isn't.

Is the match score the whole story?

No — it's a starting signal, not a verdict. Visiting, talking to current students, and your own gut feel about a campus all matter in ways a data-driven score can't fully capture.

Family & accounts

Can I add more than one student?

Yes — one account supports up to three students, each with their own profile, college list, and deadlines. Switching between them takes one tap.

Can my student log in too?

Not yet. Right now there's a single parent login per family account — your student's profile lives in ColleQA, but they don't have their own sign-in. Letting a student access (or start) their own profile is something we're actively scoping for a future release.

Is my family's information private?

Your family's data is scoped to your account — other ColleQA families can't see it, and we don't sell or share it with schools or third parties.

Coverage & limitations

What schools are included?

ColleQA has a curated database of hundreds of U.S. colleges with deeper data behind them, and you can also search and add virtually any nationally recognized U.S. institution — newly added schools start with basic info and get fully enriched shortly after.

Do you help with essays?

Not currently — ColleQA focuses on building a well-fit college list, tracking deadlines, and keeping the family coordinated. Essay coaching isn't part of the product today.

Is there a mobile app?

Not a native app — ColleQA is built as a mobile-optimized website, so it works well in your phone's browser without anything to install. For quick access, you can still add it to your home screen like an app: on iPhone (Safari), tap the Share icon, then "Add to Home Screen." On Android (Chrome), tap the three-dot menu, then "Add to Home screen" (or "Install app"). Either way, it opens straight into ColleQA with its own icon, no browser address bar in the way.

Do you support international students or schools?

Not yet — ColleQA is scoped to U.S. students applying to U.S. schools for now.

Still have a question?

Once you're signed in, there's a feedback button in the app for questions, bugs, or ideas — we read every one.
